Tim’s Porthole

Custom Fused Glass Boat Porthole

The boat depicted here—the F/V Marandah—was owned and captained by my father‑in‑law, Tim. This seine boat worked the waters of Prince William Sound, Alaska. The brass porthole framing the artwork is authentic and originally came from the M/V Tustumena of the Alaska Marine Highway System. It shows natural wear, oxidation, and layers of paint accumulated over years at sea. The brass can be polished back to a shine or left as‑is to preserve its history.

The artwork itself is a double‑sided fused‑glass panel featuring the fishing boat and surrounding landscape. The glass measures approximately 16″ in diameter, with the full porthole measuring 20″. Because it is double‑sided, the piece can be installed as a window or placed where it can be viewed from both sides—such as in a door or a dividing wall.

This particular porthole has been sold, but a similar piece can be created using a photo of your own boat, a different color scheme, or an added background.
